JOHOR BAHRU, 6 May 2017 (New Straits Times) : The police are currently conducting an on-going crackdown to round up gang leaders in an effort to combat the menace.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said several gang leaders are expected to be arrested soon as police intensify efforts against gang-related activities.
“This has become a worrying issue as these gangs are now recruiting school children as members. If we don’t put a stop to it now, the problem will continue to spread,” he said.
He said police have already succeeded in arresting several gang leaders during operations in Johor, Kedah and Penang.
“We can use the Prevention of Crime Act, the Penal Code and other related laws to arrest them. The aim is to break up these gangs,” said Nur Jazlan.
He was speaking to the media after attending the Johor Baru level World Red Cross and Red Cresent Day here.
